Parents: Please help with 5th Grade Winter Party

A note from 5th Grade Homeroom Parents Michelle Loveland and Lecia Merriam:

We would like to thank all the parents who donated items and their time for our Fall Party. It was a huge success.

We have an equally fun party planned for Friday December 16th at 11 a.m.

We are in need of some items to be donated:

• 10 boxes of hot chocolate (10 ct)
• 3 bags of mini marshmallows
• 5 bags of Hershey kisses
• 4 bags of mini candy canes (at least 25 ct)
• 3 bags of mini M&M's

We would like 6 parents to bring 2 dozen cookies to share.

We also need 6 parents to volunteer in the classrooms.

We need all items brought to one of the 5th grade classes no later than Thursday the 15th.

Please call or email one of the Room Parents to let us know how you are able to help out.

New Poems Just Updated

Click on the "Current Poems" Tab to view the poems our 5th graders are currently working on. Your 5th grader is to choose ONE to memorize at home and consider its meaning. The poem will be presented in class on November 21.

In order to earn an A, please go beyond simple memorization. Possible extensions of the poem would be:

* Tell the class 1 or 2 facts about the poem

* Put the poem to music

* Create actions that match the words

* Bring a prop that correlates with the poem

* Explain what the poem means to them

* Create a piece of artwork that portrays the poem

* Share a favorite line from the poem and tell why it's your favorite

This list is not exhaustive. Please allow your child to be creative and use his/her talents to present the poem If you have questions, please feel free to contact your homeroom teacher.

New Parent Teacher Conference Routine

Dear Parents,

Parent Teacher Conferences are just around the corner. This year we will

be doing things differently as our schedule is new this year. We imagine that you

will want to see all of your child’s teachers so we are not scheduling set times.

We will have an open schedule with chairs outside our doors on a first come, first

serve basis. Because of the amount of students each teacher instructs, time

allotted for visits will be:

• seven minutes for homeroom
• five minutes for math
• three minutes for rotations

We will be available on Tuesday, October 25th from 1:30 to 6:30 and Wednesday, October 26th from 9:00 to 11:00 and 12:00 to 3:00. We look forward to seeing you and are grateful for the opportunity we have to work with you children.

Call For Silent Auction Items

Our Fall Festival and Silent Auction are coming up soon! If you have anything you would like to donate anything to our Silent Auction please call Trina Clegg at 232-7066 or email her at brianandtrinac[at]yahoo[dot]com.

Donations can be anything from homemade items such as jewelry, sewing items, crafts.... or business donations such as gift certificates or free services. This is a great way to advertise your business and also help the school at the same time.

Small items can be brought to the school office. If you need someone to pick up other items, give Trina a call.

We are excited for the Silent Auction. We already have an eliptical machine donated from Icon, furniture and mattresses from a few stores, and our popular date night packages that include movie tickets and dinners to local restaraunts. Bring your checkbooks!
